Exhibition of Flower Paintings by Pat Preble
THE RHODODENRON DELL
The mind and emotions effect health. There are many practical exercises
and visualizations which can boost your immune system and enhance your general
health and well being. The "best defense" against illness is a
"positive mental and emotional offense."

The purpose of my painting is to create an atmosphere of uplifting feelings.
My paintings are created with the intent to engender a feeling of peace
and serenity in the viewer. They are an antidote to stress and unpleasant
thoughts.

The mind is part of the body. Slowly people are recognizing that the
habitual thoughts and emotions one harbors within have an effect on the
body. For an understanding of this, just imagine for a moment some lovely
experience from your past. Some delightful thing. Spend a few moments recalling
it. My favorite is laying upside down, feet propped up against the trunk
of a 3,000 year old redwood tree in Northern California. I lay like that
just breathing and enjoying the silence and beauty of the forest for more
than four hours while my friends swam and played in a river near by. When
ever I am distressed or upset or find it hard to sleep at night because
of the cares of the world, I remember my time with that tree. My whole body
relaxes back into that state at the recall of the memory. Call one of your
own up and imagine it.
["The Heart of the Dell"
Encaustic on paper, 15" x 22"
(SOLD)
If you have been able to recall something lovely, you will find that
the state your body is in now, with the recall, quite different than what
it was in when before you started. Take stock of how it feels. If you are
daring, although I do not recommend harboring ill thoughts, for an experiment,
call up an unpleasant experience, perhaps from work where you were upset
about something. Notice at the moment of recall how the body system alters
to take on a state of upset and aggitation. There are different chemicals
running in the blood stream, your blood pressure has probably changed. Your
breathing may be different (you may holding your breath or breathing very
shallowly) and you might find a stiffness and tightness in various parts
of the body associated with the upset.
Now take a deep breath and let that go and return to the lovely memory.
Breathe deeply and slowly and gently. Really focus to get your mind back
to a fond and lovely thought place. Once you have accomplished this, take
stock again of how your body feels and how you are breathing. If you have
taken care to do this little exercise, you will see immediately the effects
that thoughts have on the physical body.

["Wedding Path"
Encaustic on paper, 15" x 22" ($450)]
Long standing and habitually positive emotional and mental states create
a palace of joyful chemical balance within the body system. This in itself
will boost health. The seat of the immune system is the thymus gland which
just happens to be located at the center of the heart chakra. Joy and love
boost the immune system. Grief and saddness deplete it because of the stress
of the thymus gland in location to the focal pooint of those emotions in
the heart chakra. If you are in a difficult situation, emotionally, do what
ever it takes to clear it out of your heart chakra. I like to think loving
thoughts to my thymus gland and fill my heart with unconditional, purely
objective lovingness for the sake of it, just to stay healthy. And, it makes
me feel good to do so.
["Mozart's Tree"
Encaustic on paper, 15" x 22" ($450)]
If you surround yourself with uplifting images and place inspiring music,
you will find yourself relaxing more. Take a look at what kinds of thoughts
you habitually harbor in your mind. To protect and ensure good health focus
on creating a garden of beauty in your thought atmosphere.
I hope you have enjoyed the flower paintings. They are for sale. If you

Biography of the Artist
In the mid-1970's Pat Preble began her research into the healing effects
of color and light. While working she utilizes meditation to create a state
of mind and emotion to embody a higher vision of the the Light. The viewer
of her paintings can participate in and experience the vision through the
art work. Her paintings are predominently spiritual and have been used by
meditation instructors to teach students to still their minds and find a
place of deep inner silence. While working Preble listens to the words of
spiritual masters creating a state of inner receptivity to the Higher Light.
In Preble's own words, "The mental and emotional state of the artist
will be imbued in the work. While I am working on a painting I take great
care to put myself into the highest state of communion with the Divine that
I am able to achieve. My purpose in doing so is to create a link from there
to my hands and imbue the work with a sense and feeling of the presence
of the Divine in our lives. My reason for doing this is discuss the idea
of the higher possibilities that exist for us, if we can be open to them."
