Shigeo Fukuda
The Work of
Shigeo Fukuda
Shigeo Fukuda is a master of the ambiguos illusion. He creates sculptures which look like complete chaos
when viewed at many angles, yet from one or more precise angles, chaos is turned into perfection with an exact likeness
of a sculpture without flaw!
Below, a sculpture is viewed from its frontal view making a piano player upon his piano clearly visible. The right frame, however,
is a view of the same sculpture but from the piano player's back and yet a violinist is seen playing his violin! The center frame is to show
you how he did this with an angle showing the combonation of piano and violin player.

Below is another sculpture of a musical instrument by Fukuda. Look at the amorphous shape of the sculpture on the right which resembles a sculture
of modern art rather than a sculpture of illusion. But now, witness its reflection in the mirror showing the perfect reflection of a grand piano! Only at one specific
angle of sight can the sculpture of chaos turn into a sculpture of beauty, done by the artistic hands of Shigeo Fukuda!
