Sir,
I would like to bring to your attention a consumer affair that is having a large financial burden on the citizens of your state and others. It concerns the Jeep Grand Cherokee of which I own a 1999 model. As you can see I have enclosed a repair estimate of $1245 to completely overhaul an axle on a car that does not even have 30,000 miles yet. I have done some research on-line and found horror stories of other customers not being satisfied with the product in general. In the letter to Chrysler (of which I have enclosed) I referenced some web-sites with unfavorable comments by other customers. The manufacturer is very arrogant and uncaring for their customers. Their attitude seems to be they have our money, next customer please. I know “let the buyer beware”, but it is assumed that when a manufacturer sells a product, the product is designed safely and should last on the average of what similar products last.
I am sending this letter to you to see if an inquiry by you would get Jeep and Chrysler to fix their mistakes. They sold over 343,000 Grand Cherokees this year alone. It seems the 1999 is the worse of these. Jeep should fix all outstanding problems (failing axles and transmissions, a major component with large repair costs) and give customers an extended warranty on the power train. I have parked my Jeep because I was told it was unsafe to continue driving with the noise I was experiencing. I must now find a suitable repair shop. I do not want to use Jeeps’ service as it seems even their replacement parts are failing again and again.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely
Walter D. Wheeler
