Studio Lesson Policy

Lessons are taught Tues-Thurs except for the following holidays:
Memorial Day (May)        Thanksgiving Day (Nov.)
Independance Day (July)      Christmas Day (Dec.)
Labor Day (Sept.)     New Year's Day (Jan.)
Just because there is a Monday holiday at school doesn't mean there are no music lessons!

DUE TO SO MANY "NO SHOWS" OF SCHEDULED NEW STUDENTS AND TOO MANY  STUDENTS JUST "TRYING IT OUT" FOR ONE LESSON, I MUST INSIST ON A 4 LESSON PREPAYMENT  BEFORE I WILL INCLUDE NEW STUDENTS IN MY SCHEDULE. I am sorry to be forced to do this but reserving a time slot and then not showing up - no call to explain why and other students needing make up times or new students not being able to take advantage of a vacant time - is getting tiresome. "Trying it out" for one lesson has become tiresome also. The only way to find out if music is for you is to give it a 4 week
trial. You will then have learned a little something about music and you will know whether or not you wish to put the necessary effort into it to learn more.
Tuition
Tuition (lesson payment) is paid by the month and is due at the first lesson of each month for the entire month. This insures that the student's day and time are reserved for the month.

Discounts*
Discounts are available for:
Immediate family members and referrals

As long as another family member or the person you referred to me remain students of the studio, you are entitled to the current lesson discount fee. This discount will start when the other student has signed up and paid for their first month of lessons. If they discontinue lessons, your lesson rate goes back up to your original lesson fee. I will keep track of your referrals on your monthly lesson billing so that you will know which one of your referrals or family members is still active.
* It is wise to continually refer students to me so that you never have to go back to the original lesson price.
Late Fees
A 10% late fee will be attached to any lesson fees and/or balances due that are not paid by the second lesson of the month. If I allow students to be late with their payments this results in some difficulty in keeping the studio open. Also, the accuracy of the book keeping becomes increasingly difficult to maintain. Please set up a different arrangement with me if your income and my payment schedule do not coincide.
Absences*
You are paying to secure a slot in my schedule. What you DO with that time is up to you. I have to pay utilities, buy materials and block out time in my day for your lessons. I need to be notified 24hrs in advance of an absence in order for you to have a chance of securing a make-up time. Make-ups need to be made before the end of the month.
No credits will be carried over to the next month unless: an oversite on the teacher's part has created an error in billing or an absence, caused by the teacher, cannot be made up before the end of the month.
Student absences during the last week of the month run the risk of not being made up due to time constraints.
* Please keep in mind that when I give you a make-up lesson, I have to pay more in utilities and re-arrange my schedule.
Extended Absences
Absences that will extend beyond one week (1 missed lesson) need to be planned out with the teacher. These usually occur due to vacations. There are 3 options that can be used to get around these gaps in the schedule:
#1- Prepay for the day and time to be held open during your absence and plan make-ups before/after your intended time of absence (good for 2 week absences)
#2- Pay for the day and time to be held open during your absence with the understanding that no make-ups will be possible (good for longer absences).
#3- Drop lessons for the time you will be absent and hope another slot will be available when you return. This option causes all studio points to be wiped out, and if the student has one, the student's web page will also be taken down (it will be put back up once the student returns to lessons).
Illness
I must insist that if a student is obviously ill, PLEASE DO NOT BRING THEM IN! They will not be able to concentrate on the lesson. Any germs they are carrying will be transmitted to me and the other students who come into the studio area. An obviously ill student will be sent home and there will be no make-up given for the lesson.
Please keep in mind that if you miss a lesson, that is only ONE lesson for you and I to make up. If I become sick, I end up missing 3 or 4 DAYS of lessons which cannot be made up and must be credited. Not only do other students lose out because of this, but I lose a considerable amount of income which puts a strain on the studio. Too many sick days for me and the studio will close.
Materials and Equipment
All students are required to bring their own books and materials to the lessons. "Lesson Materials" are those items that were either purchased from the teacher for the lessons or given by the teacher for use in the lessons. This also includes the cassette tape that was given at the first lesson. Students will lose one studio point for each item of lesson materials that was NOT brought to the lesson.
"Lesson Equipment" is considered to be your instrument or those accessories that are needed to play your instrument. IE: Drumsticks, Guitar picks, Electric Keyboard, adaptor for the keyboard. For each item of Lesson Equipment that isn't brought to the lesson, 1 studio point will be lost.
