Note: The largest single contributor to rising insurance
premium costs are water damage claims. When at home, turn off
the water to the washing machine after EACH use. When leaving
home for a week or more, shut-off the main water supply to your
home and the hot water electrical circuit breaker.
Other precautions:
Make sure you have a burst-proof hose on the washing machine,
and check regularly for wetness, bulges and cracks.
Allow at least 4 inches between the water connection and the
back of the washing machine so that the hose does not kink.
Do not plug any drains.
Keep the clothes dryer duct free of lint and avoid leaving the
dryer running while you are away.
Keep the area around the dryer free of combustibles.
Set pails of water in several rooms to maintain the moisture.
Seal the toilet bowl to prevent evaporation.
Check to make sure the oven and burners are turned off.
Lock all doors. Leave a unit key with a local relative or friend.
Let the Associations management company know who has the
key.
Have someone check your home on a weekly basis, and leave your
phone number so you can be reached in an emergency by a neighbor
and your Associations management company.
If you leave a vehicle on the premises, leave a key with a local
relative or friend.
Most A/C manufacturers caution against turning off power to the
heat pump/air conditioning system. A small amount of power is
needed to prevent condensation of the refrigerant inside the
compressor. Instead, turn the thermostat switch to Off.
