Wing Chun Kali System History:
In the summer of 1987 my Shi-fu Joe Musse decided to coin his way of teaching WING CHUN KALI SYSTEM. By this year my Shi-fu had 18 years of wing chun kung-fu experience and 12 years of kali experience. Including other martial art's participation and discipline in his earlier year's. Okay what is Wing Chun Kali System you may ask? Wing Chun Kali System or [wingchunka] it is a process of combining wing chun kung-fu into the filipino martial art's [ kali-arnis de mano-escrima].
However one wants to interpreted.My Shi-fu learned through his years of pursuing the best of the filipino martial arts, the truth is there is no best or worst. You the men make's the art , the way that my Shi-fu Joe Musse instructed his art of kali. Is by integrating the best of wing chun kung-fu to adapt, so as to achieve a desired effect. How is it that you may ask? well easy if one knows wing chun-kung-fu principles of fighting. Because we are explaining it, first we must ask what is a wing chun kung-fu principle? answer to stick. What do we mean by this, simply to keep close to your opponent,one who opposes you by trying to hurt you or your love ones.Principle two and possibly the most important of all principles of wing chun kung-fu is to do the MOST WITH THE LEAST.

Shi-fu / Guru Angel E. Mercado’s Biography
My background in the martial arts started in the early part of 1972 , with my cousin Anibal Negron in Chinese Goju Karate. I continued my training with my cousin until 1977, a period of five years. After that I started to look for a Chinese style that would fit me. I took Pak Hok Gung fu (White Crane) in Chinatown, for two years. At the time my best friend told me that the he knew of a system that would fit me perfectly. I asked him what system was that? And he said Wing Chun (Yip Man Style) Gung fu. So what I did was search until one day, while at work someone told me of a man.Who worked across the same building that I did who was a Wing Chun practioner. I asked him what was his name ? and they told me it was Joe Musse and he was located in the Security Administration Department. The year was 1979, we met and everything from there is what we say its history.Over the years I have been quite fortunate to have been a student of my Shi-fu. Not only has he taught me Wing Chun, but also Kali. He has been my mentor not only in the martial arts, but in the spiritual aspect in my life with Christianity. It wasn’t until 1987 that my Shi-fu Joe Musse coined his system the Wing Chun Kali System.In August of 1993, I was fortunate to have met Grandmaster Ji Rong Liu(Founder of the Tai Kong Chuan system which combines the principles and movements of Tai Chi Chuan, Hsing-i Chuan, Pa Kua Chuan, Pei Kua Men, and Tong Bei Chuan into a unitary martial arts system) and his daughter Xiao Ying Liu in Queens at the public library were they conducted small classes of Tai Chi Chuan. I was priveleged to have become his closed door student in 1994 and trained privately with Grandmaster Ji Rong Liu and his daughter Xiao Ying Liu in their home and Chinatown(Columbus park).I assisted Grandmaster Ji Rong Liu and his daughter Xiao Ying Liu at the library and at the Swedish Institute on 26 Street. I continued my training with Grandmaster Ji Rong Liu and his daughter Xiao Ying Liu until December of 1997 which is the year he left for China.I await his arrival to continue my training with him and further my training in the art.Even though in the martial arts I am still a baby learning how to walk, my approach is to continue learning the art that has been taught to me by my Shi-fu. That all the martial artists in the world be united in harmony as one family, in order to teach the future generations the way of harmony, love and respect to all mankind for this is the true way of a martial artist.
