(View from the southeast corner) The cemetery of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church dates to the early 1760's. The first grave according to local legends was that of a stranger who was thrown from his horse against a tree and died. The oldest marked grave is dated 1763. The 1771 deed from William Bigham to Robert Brownfield mentions the church buildings and the graveyard. The cemetery today lies quietly beside the church grounds, surrounded by low stone walls, and disturbed only by the sounds of modern jet planes from the nearby Douglas International Airport. The cemetary of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church contains graves numbering in the thousands and is still is use. There have been several listings of the names published. The lists below are not complete beyond 1977 when the most recent history of the church was published. CEMETERY LISTING FOR SURNAMES A - E CEMETERY LISTING FOR SURNAMES F - L |
