General Information

What is a house concert?

A. A house concert is a performance by musician or group in a private home. (In Canada, these are often known as "Kitchen Concerts".) They are a way for up-and-coming artists to get heard by an appreciative audience, and for an appreciative audience to hear new music in a relaxed and intimate setting.

Usually the "stage" is the living room, with folding and other chairs set up for the audience. House concerts almost always involve performers who live elsewhere, as local artists have many other venues to choose from.

To learn more about house concerts, we suggest you read the rest of this page, and then visit

Why do you do it?

A. Because it's fun, we love the music, and we enjoy sharing it with our friends! A lot of the music we like is made by folks who are not "big names", and who don't have a huge touring budget. So, for a small investment of time, food and beverages, we get to see performers we enjoy who wouldn't ordinarily play Chester County, (due to the lack of venues featuring this type of music). We are also enjoy introducing talented performers to audiences who may not be familiar with their music. Finally, it's a great opportunity to spend time with old friends and make new ones.

How much money do you make?

A. We don't make any money from hosting a house concert. All the money gathered from admission donations and CD/other things sales go directly to the performer, and we do not charge the performer a fee. We pay all the expenses ourselves. Our house concerts are not business ventures; they're parties that focus on an excellent live music performance.

What types of artists do you have perform?

A. Mostly independent singer-songwriters, doing what has come to be called “contemporary folk”. If you listen to WXPN, you'll get an idea of the types of artists you'll be seeing.

What kind of environment is the evening?

A. Casual. Attending a house concert is like visiting friends who happen to have musicians or a band in the house, except that the music isn't in the background, it's the focus of the party. You will not feel comfortable if you don't enjoy listening attentively to live music. If you prefer to chat during performances, please do that elsewhere.

Some notes:

  1. Our home is a smoke free environment. We ask everyone to honor this and please keep all cigars, pipes and cigarettes outside.
  2. We do have dogs. While we take them to be pet-sat elsewhere for the concert itself, and do a thorough "defuzzing" before the event, there will still be trace amounts of dander and fur around.
  3. There is generally food. Generally it is a potluck snack buffet that often includes all types of cookies, cakes, and pies.
  4. If people wish to bring wine or beer, we are fine with that so long as people use their own discretion; anyone who appears intoxicated in our home will be asked to leave and not to return.

Can I bring my kids?

A. A house concert offers a "listening room" experience, which means that it can be hard for kids if they're not comfortable sitting and listening to two sets of 45-60 minutes each. Unfortunately, there are no quiet areas to take them away from the music. If you're concerned, contact us ahead of time and we can talk about it.

Where are you? How can I attend?

A. We're located about 1 hour west of Philadelphia near the Morgantown exit of the PA Turnpike. For security reasons, we do not post directions to our home on our web site. The address and directions are available on request and will also be sent to you when you make a reservation.

To get on the list, just send an email to wolfwmn777@aol.com and tell us which concert and how many people will be joining you. If you have never been here before, you'll need directions, so be sure to tell us where you are coming from!

We will send you a confirmation email telling you that we've added you to the RSVP list. You should get that return email within 24 hours of sending in your RSVP. If you don't... it means we didn't get your email, so please try again. Only people who get a confirmation email from us will be on the RSVP list.

What if I RSVP and then can't make it?

A. PLEASE be sure to let us know. There is a good chance that we will have a waiting list for the show. If you are on the RSVP list for a particular concert but will not be able to attend, please be sure to let us know as soon as possible so that we'll have the opportunity to include someone from the waiting list. This is a courtesy not only to the people on the waiting list, but also to the performer who would love to see a full house!

Q. Why do you need an RSVP list?

A. Again, these concerts are private parties in our living room and we have a limited amount of space. Many of our house concerts attract enough interest to fill the house. We use the RSVP list to be sure that we can fit everyone in. We only have about 35 chairs and can sometimes get up to 40 people in the room. Doors open 1/2 hour (30 min) before showtime (example: at 6:30 P.M. for a 7:00 P.M. show).

Q. What should I bring?

A. Please do bring:

  • Finger food or beverages to share
  • A positive, patient attitude, and a sense of humour
  • Cash for CD purchases
  • Small pillows to soften seats if you'd like

Please do not bring:

  • Pets
  • Cameras or other recording devices (other than for personal photos between sets)

Please try to avoid:

  • Strong Perfumes or colognes
  • Cell phones and audible pagers

There is a buffet table?

A. Yes, there is. At each of our concerts we have a pot-luck style buffet. While it is not required for guests to contribute, it is encouraged. The more we have, the more fun it is!! We contribute a limited amount of food & beverages each concert, so there is always something to enjoy. How big the buffet is depends upon how many people contribute that night.
