Radio Notes for Richmond Virginia ...

As of 5/18/99 ...

WCVE seemed far more thankful this time around than after previous beg-a-thons. They stated on a monday "this drive will only take three days." By Friday, they were still at it. Author went out of town so I do not know if they continued Saturday or Sunday. They claim to have had the best fundraiser ever. If so that is probably not due to overwhelming love of their pomposity, the Sunday previous to the beg-a-thon, they allowed the Metropolitan Opera to continue to 5:40pm with no obvious apology to the 2/3rds of WCVE's audience that is only there for the news and not the Opera. The classical music fans may have been energized by a column by yours truly in Television & Entertainment that shows that classical music has no place on tax-subsidized radio.

Hmmmm. Check out 90.1 FM ... some interesting activity ...
