Morgan Freeman reprises his role of Alex Cross, the profiling sleuth of “Kiss The Girls” in this big screen prequel. Cross teams up with a Secret Service Agent (Monica Potter) to catch a brilliant criminal (Michael Wincott) who has kidnapped a senator’s young daughter. As he profiles the kidnapper, Cross begins to discover an intricate web of deceit and danger with more than meets the eye.

Though “Along Came A Spider” is a prequel to “Kiss The Girls”, there is no need whatsoever to have seen the film in order to enjoy this one. Both movies stand well alone, but after seeing “Along Came A Spider”, I did go out and purchase “Kiss The Girls” on DVD for my own personal collection, which is also available now from Paramount Home Entertainment. The film features some neat surprise plot twists and good performances by Morgan Freeman and Monica Potter.

Paramount Home Entertainment presents “Along Came A Spider” in a beautiful reference quality anamorphic widescreen (2.35:1) transfer with a great aggressive English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Soundtrack that is coupled with an optional English Dolby Surround 2.0 Soundtrack and a French Language Dolby Surround 2.0 Soundtrack. English Captions and Closed Captions are also encoded on to the dual layered DVD.

There is a 14-minute Behind-The-Scenes featurette with videotaped interviews with Author James Patterson, Director Lee Tamahori, and Actor Morgan Freeman and other members of the cast along with videotaped production footage. A theatrical trailer is also included and wraps up the extra features on the DVD.

The main menu is animated with standard interactive still frames in the subsequent menus and all of the interactive menus are easy to navigate. “Along Came A Spider” is available on DVD-Video now from Paramount Home Entertainment.
