Mike has been licensed since 1971 and Rhoda first in 1959 then relicensed in 1986. They have operated ham radio around the world in places like Sicily, Hawaii, Illinois, Colorado, and California.

1st Place Field Day 2005 category 3E QRP!

An avid competitor, Mike has entered several hundred radio competitions over the years placing high in many. This past year Mike and a team of other operators participated in the June 2005 Field Day (emergency prepardness exercise) earning 1st Place overall in the category they entered. From 1984-1987 Mike (then WBØLEY/IT9) hammed from Naval Air Station Sigonella, Sicily, Italy . LEFT ABOVE: Mike's antenna farm, Hy-Gain 18AVT vertical, homemade 30 meter vertical, 10 element 2 meter beam, and a 5/8 wave groundplane vertical. ABOVE RIGHT: Worn out! Mike had just finished participating in the CQ World-Wide contest. Below another picture of Mike's Italian setup. Mike also started a ham club on the Navy base, Sigonella Shortwave Society and taught licensing classes.

A simple but effective station.
A family of hams! Recently when Mike's father visited he showed a pictures on Bob Anderson, W9HAG, Mike's great uncle (in picture). Bryan worked for 8 weeks earning his Technician license and being issued the vanity callsign, W9HAG.
DXCC QRP! Mike's passon is low power opertating and his dream came true when he earned DXCC QRP (talking to over 100 countries with 5 watts of power or less). Here is Mike holding his DXCC QRP certificate under his beam which is only 11 feet above ground level.
