Brianna Burkett - Fun Places - Canavan Leukodystrophy
Fun Places
We don't get out very much for fun. But when we do get out, like every mother's day, we go to The Toledo Zoo, and we try to make it out to our local Gibsonburg Homecoming festival, and the Sandusky County Fair. This summer of 2000, though, we are taking a whole week off of everything and going with Grandma and Grandpa Burkett, Rusty, Donika, Mommy and me to Florida to visit the Breedon family for a couple of days and then Disney on the way back home for a couple of days. The thought of not having to do anything for a whole week is going to be real nice for a change. For my Mommy, no appointments, and no work; for me, no therapist, just fun. During the summer I get to go on bike rides with my mommy and sister. Mommy has a special buggy I ride in. I swing in the back yard also. We have a special designed swing that I can go in and not worry about my head flopping around. I don't like to go swimming. I don't even like when mommy puts my hand in the pool water. But I love my baths. Mommy got me a special wheelchair and we go for long walks in the summer too. Sissy tags along for the fun.
Here is a Picture of Brianna with her sister (far left) Donika, then working towards the right are her cousins Jessica Burkett, Allison Ross, and Katrina Ross they are standing infront of a little creature standing up on a rock in the background. Brianna had fun this day. We went on Mother's day this year.
Mom says, "I feel Brianna would love to go to Cedar Point, Sea World, the Amish Country, and even Sauders Village. The thought of watching Brianna going on rides without needing me to hold her would be just awesome. I truly feel some day there will be a cure and I will get to enjoy Brianna running off with her sister on rides and having a great time. She will be watching the animals at Sea World."
