TERRORANTULA  2002 -
 Robot killing machine
Team BotHeadz Terrorantula competed in the May 2002 Battlebots Competition at Treasure Island in SanFrancisco. It is a Heavyweight (220lbs.), spinning / Omni-Bot
with counter-rotating (2500RPM) 1/4" X 32" stainless steel blades. It also has a Co2 system used to clamp (2000lbs) on all four sides. The frame is made of 3/8" Titanium
plate and the robot is a mirror image when flipped over. The build time was approximately 1 yr. and most parts were machined using a wire EDM, CNC Mill and Co2 Laser. The drive system consists of five 5Hp DC motors, 4 for the wheels and 1 for the blades. We have about 15Ah worth of Ni-Cad batteries and are currently switching from 2 FDR-23 Vantecs to 4 IFI Thors for the chain driven wheels, the blade motors are solenoid driven. We learned a hard lesson about speed controller heat sinking / failures at this past Battlebots competition. We are currently developing our own heavy duty omni-wheels and we have high expectations for the next competition in November 2002. Look for us on Comedy Centrals Battlebots
