Mac OS Sound Sets for Discriminating Tastes

Sound Sets are for Macs only! Mac OS Sound Sets for Discriminating Tastes

Welcome to my showcase of sound sets. All of these are original creations of mine, although I have used sounds recorded by others (e.g. Skywalker Sound, Warner Brothers) for some sets.

OS X users
You can now use sound sets on OS X by downloading a shareware program called Xounds!

DISCLAIMER I will not take responsibility for any data loss you may experience while using my sound sets. If you are crashing using any sound sets, first, make sure you have the latest version of the sound set. If you do and it's still crashing, send me some mail and I'll try to fix it.

Download Trouble?
There have been some problems downloading recently, so I've tried moving my files to another location on the net (thanks to James Baxter).

Install Trouble?
If you're having problems installing or using my sound sets, check out my help page with instructions on installing and using SoundSets.

Make Your Own Sound Set
If you're interested in making your own sound sets, I have some brief instructions based on what I learned in the process of making these ones. Welcome Mac Addict readers who found my sound sets on the May/99 issue.

Arcade Wavs Arcade Sounds in WAV format (updated 7/11/00)
I've had a request to put my sounds into a format more friendly to Windows. I've converted a bunch of sounds I collected for the Arcade SoundSet and put them into WAV format. If you have a Mac, you can still download these sounds and convert them using SoundApp. If you're a Windows user, you can download these and use your Sound Control Panel to map any of these sounds to actions in Windows. Sorry, I'm not going to make a theme for Windows any time soon.
Black Box Black Box Sound Set 1.0 Beta (updated 5/7/00)
This is the result of a few sound effects CDs and a couple days of boredom.
Arcade Arcade SoundSet 1.0 (updated 9/21/99)
Give your Mac that retro computer sound! The sounds all come from my favorite video games (I'm a child of the 80's, so there's sounds from games like Pac-Man and Joust and Dig Dug). I know I haven't even finished the WhizBang set, but this was just too much fun to make.
WhizBang WhizBang SoundSet 1.0b2 (updated 4/13/99)
This is made up of very cartooney sounds, with sources from Ren & Stimpy (Spumco), and the Worms Armageddon game demo for Windows. It is an extremely small file due to the sample rate of the sounds (11.127 khz), but most of the sounds are in place.
Toy Chest Toy Chest SoundSet v1.5 (16-bit) (updated 7/11/00)
This is almost identical to the 8-bit ToyChest SoundSet found below. The primary difference is that all of the sounds are 16-bit (meaning they're higher quality, but take more memory). If you don't care about download time and amount of RAM used by your system, download this one. If you don't want a long download, or don't have a lot of RAM in your computer, download the 8-bit version below.
Toy Chest Toy Chest SoundSet v1.5 (8-bit) (updated 2/21/99)
This sound set is made up entirely of sounds I recorded of dozens of toys and assorted crap I found in my house (some of which I was surprised to own). Recently changed groups of related sounds to mirror groups of actions while fixing volumes on some sounds. I used 16-bit sounds for dragging and sounds prior or following them to improve the overall sound quality. Trimmed down unused sounds and labeled resources more descriptively for those who ResEdit.
Wet Wet SoundSet v1.0 (updated 2/10/99)
This sound set will give your Mac a watery feeling. WARNING: Using this sound set may induce bladder movements.
Carl Stalling Carl Stalling (Warner Brothers Cartoons) SoundSet v1.3 (updated 2/3/99)
Carl Stalling was the man responsible for most of the music in early Warner Brothers Cartoons. I made this sound set using samples from a two volume collection of CDs titled "The Carl Stalling Project." I tried to make many of the primary sounds less musical, while the longer finder operations may have some musical value. The drag sounds in this set are all 16 bit, along with adjacent playing sounds. Version 1.3 has a few more suitable sounds and better volume on the drag sounds, as well as a Shutdown sound and a system beep. That's all folks!
Acid Acid SoundSet v1.0 (updated 1/6/99)
An electronic atmosphere with mostly sounds I created, and a few from an unfinished game called Golgotha made by the folks at Crack dot Com.
Jedi Jedi SoundSet v1.1 (updated 12/22/98)
This sound set is meant to replace the Rebel SoundSet. Crashing in this set is reported to be fixed, some more subtle sounds were used to replace various laser blasts and other sounds. All the samples are property of George Lucas and/or Lucas Films.
R2D2 R2D2 Sound Set v1.4 (updated 12/19/98)
A sound set made from Star Wars sound samples of R2D2. Crashing in this set is reported to be fixed. Finally, a new icon was made specifically for this sound set. All the sounds and images are property of George Lucas and/or Lucas Films.
Glass Glass SoundSet v1.2 (updated 12/8/98)
An original sound set I recorded of various glass objects. I have modified the sound resources all attributes to System Heap, and name them to match the snd# while removing unused sounds.
Terrance and Philip Terrance and Phillip Flatus SoundSet 1.1
This set is designed to annoy and disgust serious people, while amusing the young at heart. All samples from Terrance and Phillip episodes of South Park (C) Comedy Central.
